CHAPTER ELEVEN

Kaye laid on her back stretched out on the yoga mat and placed her hands to the side. Glancing over at Shannon she chuckled. Shannon laid on her back with her arms and legs gapped open. Kaye had finally convinced Shannon to attend hot yoga with her on Friday nights. Besides, Kaye regular meditation sessions she does at home; she decided to add a method of stretching to her weekly routine.

“Girl, it’s hot in here,” Shannon said in a whisper, fanning herself with her hand on the tile floor.

Kaye smiled. “It’s supposed to be hot, it’s called hot yoga remember?” Shannon gave Kaye a sideway glance and smirked.

Kaye’s eyes dotted around the room at the other eight attendees stretched out on the floor; awaiting the instructor instructions.

“Mountain Pose,” the instructor Kevin announced out loud. Kaye stood to her feet.

“What the heck is that?” Shannon asked frowning and watching Kaye every move. Kaye placed her hands together and lifted her arms straight in the air with her head lifted towards the ceiling.

“Hold this position for several seconds,” the instructor announced.

“Have you talked to Brooks?” Shannon asked with her head still towards the ceiling.

Kaye frowned. For the past two weeks Shannon has been team Brooks and frankly she was getting tired of the questions. “No…and can you please stop asking me that?”

“Downward Facing Dog,” Kevin said and laid his palms flat on the floor with his butt stuck up in the air. Kaye and Shannon both imitated the move.

“I would stop asking you if you were happy,” Shannon whispered. “The only time you seemed like you were living again was when you was out there on that ranch for three weeks.” Shannon fell to her knees and exhale “Just don’t continue your life being an old hag. Brooks is not Jonah.”

Kaye lifted her head from the floor at the same time Kevin clamped his hands together. “That’s it for today class…see you next week.”

Kaye plopped down on the mat and glared at Shannon. “I hear you Shannon and I’m trying to get out there. I told you about my date with Lawrence and how much of a disaster that was.” Shannon nodded. “I don’t know what to do.” Kaye hung her head.

Shannon stood to her feet and in a sing song voice she said “I know what to do” Kaye creased her eyebrows together. Shannon pulled the rubber band from her long ponytail and said “Take a shower and eat.”

***

Kaye placed the last plate in her dishwasher and pressed the start button. She hadn’t cleaned her house in three days. Strategically placing a glass teacup up under her Keurig machine; she’d brewed a cup of coffee. She scratched her head through the black bonnet cap. Shannon was right about one thing; she needed to get out more and meet new people. Her mother worried about her never finding someone to settle down with. Kaye wanted kids; approximately two. She wanted to come home every night to a warm body in her bed and not cold sheets and a vibrator.
